Nicola Shadbolt, BSc, MAgrSc.(Hons) (Chair of the Board)
Nicola is Professor of Farm and Agribusiness Management, and Co-Director of the AgriCommerce Programme at Massey University. Nicola is an independent directorof HFGL and a current director of Fonterra (elected). Nicola has a deep professional understanding of agribusiness and practical dairy farming experience through a successful equity partnership spanning nearly 30 years.
John Hopkins JP
John has had a lifelong interest in farming, having had 20 years milking cows before progressing on to farm management and development. Awarded a Nuffield Scholarship in 1979, John has also had 15 years in farm politics with Federated Farmers followed by 10 years as a Director of the Tui and Kiwi Cooperative Dairy Companies. John has proven foresight and is continually looking for new ways to progress. The growth of Hopkins Farming Group as one of the largest and most successful farming groups in New Zealand is evidence of this foresight.
Kevin is an independent director who began dairying in Waikato, progressed rapidly through sharemilking before buying a 55ha farm. Within five years Kevin was producing twice the district average. In 2000 with others Kevin formed an equity partnership which purchased 365 ha in Central Hawkes Bay and converted it to dairying. Kevin manages this 1400 cow operation which is irrigated, highly performing and profitable.
James is an independent director of HFGL. James is Managing Director of his family’s 600 ha farming business of which he has converted, expanded and farmed on for the last 20 years. Has been involved in farm politics through Manawatu/Rangitikei Federated Farmers as Dairy Chair and Provincial President, this has lead James to continue to be involved being on committees and forums at both a Regional and National level advocating in practical sensible outcomes for farming in New Zealand
Conrad Wilkshire is the General Manager for Property Brokers Rural division. Conrad commenced with Property Brokers this October 2017 and will be based at their Head Office base in Palmerston North. Conrad has a solid background in agriculture with his previous role being Chief Operations Officer at FMG where he had been employed since 2009. Prior to that he has worked in prominent agri-focused companies such as PGG Wrightson and BNZ in senior General Management including agriculture. He began his working career with the Rural Banking & Finance Corporation in the Manawatu and has also owned and managed his own farm and property development in Hanmer Springs for the last ten years. Conrad was appointed to Director of Hopkins Farming Group in September 2017 and he also chairs the Dinsdale Limited which holds the HFGL shares owned by the Hopkins family.
In addition he contributes a lot of time to his local community including the Chamber of Commerce Advisory Board and Talent Central which looks to assist Manawatu's youth into careers. Qualifications held includes a Bachelor of Agriculture (Rural Valuation) and a Diploma in Business Studies (Commercial Valuation and Property Management) from Massey University.
Conrad and his family live in the Manawatu region and when he isn’t in the office, he is keen on sporting and outdoor pursuits having run several marathons in the 'distant' past but favours the bike these days.
